That cracked earth.
Something about the way that we walked
When we stopped on the cracked earth
And shattered glass
That made up our lives
It was something I can't describe

A flame that was burning underground Slowly flickered and went out As we trodded over The broken hills and the trampled plains

You smiled when I said I thought That we'd been here at some other time Some other time in our lives You looked at me as if I was joking And then turned away

And asked if I knew what you were thinking I'll admit now that I didn't But I pretended I did I said that you were thinking Of a knight who'd run out of water and breath And was falling to the foot of the mountain

You smiled and wondered how I'd guessed right And then pretended I didn't

And then you said that last night I had dreamed Of a beautiful girl Who had brilliant eyes And who never let anything touch her

And I wondered How you knew I was dreaming of you
