We lived forever (until 1945).
We lived forever
Until 1945
And then it was over
In a flash, in a second
Half a million people gone

I was a child A stupid child I didn't know That the smallest thing in the universe Could cause so much hurt

And the survivors went underground Just to get away We turned pale and sickly And some of us died

But I didn't know I was a child The memory slips, the memories soften But I remember

And when we came to the surface Pale as sheets The world was different It was raining

And the rain was dark A black rain fell And covered everything Smothered sheep, melted buildings

I saw so much pain I grew up with the terror And our reign on the world Was over

And then you came With your different way of being And you taught us And reshaped us

And then it was over You left, and we took over And we're doing fine (Except for minor problems)

But We had lived forever Until 1945
